In celebration of the exhibition “The Ballad of John & Yoko: Falling In Love - Photographs by Ethan Russell” Blender Gallery along with musical talents The Falls, will be holding a day long “Bed-In for Peace” on Saturday June 11th 2011.

Here they will pay tribute to John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and the timeless cause of peace.

In 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono staged an act of nonviolent protest in support of peace.
Knowing that their wedding would cause a huge stir in the press, John Lennon and Yoko Ono decided to use their honeymoon to help champion world peace. On March 25, 1969, five days after their wedding, the duo climbed into the bed of room 902 at the Amsterdam Hilton and called the media. The world’s press were invited into their hotel room every day between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m

Having held their first bed-in in Amsterdam, Ono and Lennon staged a second event in Montreal, where they stayed in rooms 1738, 1740, 1742 and 1744 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel.

During April 1969, John and Yoko sent acorns to the heads of state in various countries around the world in hopes that they would plant them as a symbol of peace. Their marriage (“You can get married in Gibraltar near Spain”), the first Bed-In (“Talking in our beds for a week”), the Vienna press conference (“Made a lightning trip to Vienna…The newspapers said…”), and the acorns (“Fifty acorns tied in a sack”) were all mentioned in the song The Ballad of John and Yoko.

Ono and Lennon’s bed-ins, in addition to being protests against violence, have also been called performance art.

In light of this, Blender Gallery is pleased to present the day long “BED IN” installation. An exclusive “BED IN” and performance by The Falls who will be recreating the music of John Lennon & Yoko Ono and showcasing some of their own tunes.
The influence of such iconic artists is clearly evident in the beautifully crafted melodies and emotive lyrics of The Falls. Their warm boy-girl harmonies and simple but blindingly effective less-is-more arrangements will be breathtaking to behold in this intimate setting.
